Privacy was the priority for this Ghent deck project in Norfolk, built on a lot where neighboring homes sit close enough to see right into a typical backyard. A privacy wall topped with a mini pergola blocks the most direct sightlines while still letting light and air through, giving the deck a sense of separation without feeling boxed in. The deck itself is built from solid 2x6 pine boards, a classic, sturdy choice that keeps the cost reasonable while still holding up to daily use. Underneath, a matching lattice skirt hides the crawl space, with a built-in entry door so it stays easy to access for storage. Simple materials, used well, were enough to turn an exposed backyard into a private one. It's proof that solving a privacy problem doesn't always mean fencing in the whole yard.
