Design Notes
A pergola only earns its keep if it's positioned right. We look at where the sun actually sits over your yard in the afternoon, not just where the structure would look best in a photo, and build the rafter spacing to give real shade instead of a token amount.
Cedar is still the most requested material for the warmth of the look, but vinyl and PVC pergolas hold up with no staining or resealing, which matters more here than in a drier climate. Most of ours attach directly to a deck or patio we've already built, though a freestanding structure over a paver base works just as well starting from bare yard.
